Turf update II
(posted 08/05/2010) Look we made the news!
WI SK8
was there to and got a lot of pictures between helping us dig!
Unfourtunatly the cops showed up and made everyone leave
after we got the bowl completly dug out. A few guys skated it this morning , but got kicked out by cops. Shortly after
construction workers put the rocks back in the bowl.
Dont worry this fight has just begun! A lawyer from the Milwaukee area that skates
just phoned and is down to help. In the meantime here is what you can do. Here is person at the state dept in Wisconsin you can email
this form letter to. Just copy and paste it into an email and sign and send. Or by all means feel free to write your own . Just be very respectful , polite and keep it clean.
More news to come!
Secretary Frank Busalacchi
Frank.Busalacchi@dot.wi.gov
Greetings Mr. Busalacchi,
I recently learned of a freeway expansion project near 1-94 and Loomis Road in Milwaukee. In the process of clearing the land, the site of a world-renowned skateboard park, The Turf, was unearthed. I grew up skating the Turf and the park has a prominent place in skateboarding history through the 70's, 80's and 90's.
I'm writing to urge the state to see if they can preserve some or all of the location, unearthing the park's features. Since there appear to be no private economic interests involved in the Turf site, it seems like it may be possible to preserve some or all of the location. Please take this into consideration. The resurrection of the Turf would be an historic achievement for the State of Wisconsin and the huge community of skateboarders world wide.
Thank you for your time,
Turf update
(posted 08/04/2010) Turns out the lot Turf is on is slated to be another park and ride!
The good news is they had to stop the digging cause they had no idea about the bowls and an
engineer needs to be brought in now to figure everything out. In the meantime the state along
with the Wisconsin historical society was contacted. The historical society is down to preserve
the park. By tomorrow we will have the email of the person who needs to be contacted at the state office
in Madison. If enough people email him saying "Dont doze the park!" we may just be skating soon enough.
Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime here is some good online pieces complete with visuals.

Turf dug out?
(posted 08/01/2010) Skateparks come and go. This one seems to just keep coming back. Well sort of.
In the late 70's Milwaukee got its first concrete skatepark. It was called Surfin' Turf. After a few
years it was shut down in the early 80's and turned into a strp club ( yeah no joking!)
Around fall of
87 the owners decided to open the park back up and renamed it 'The Turf'. This time it stuck around a bit longer but ultimatly
closed in the mid 90's. If only the building hadnt been sold Im sure in a few years the park once again
would have been opened and this time for good. With all the interest in concrete skateparks. skateboarding
history and the most important thing that park was one of the best ever built. The Turf would have been
a skateboarding landmark.
Apparently the property was sold once again and this time the building was torn down. As you can see from these
photos looks like they are being dug out. For what purpose or for how long who knows. Hopefully for good or
at least enough time to get a sesion or two in!
Regulator distribution launched!
(posted 07/13/2010) We just joined up with Kristian Svitak and Mike Vallely
to form a distribution company called 'Regulator Distribution'. Long story short
Mike ( from here at Beer City) and the rest of us started 1031 skateboards with
Kristian Svitak back in 2006. A few years latter we all started Landshark wheels.
Then not to long ago Mike V came to Kristian and Mike and wanted to start his own company.
He liked the way all of us ran our companies and wanted to make his company part of it.
So with that we all decided to combine all our companies under one distributor and
we formed 'Regulator Distribution'.
So now it will be much easier for stores and distributors to get 1031, Beer City,
By the Sword, Landshark wheels and DRI merch and records then ever before. Which
(and here is the important part for all of you) will mean you will be able to find
all these great things in more shops then ever before! With that this fall we will
be coming out with a bunch of new shapes and stuff for Beer City.
You can check out the 'Regulator' site here
As always thanks for all the support. We couldnt have made it 18 plus years without all you people!
Happy 4th of July!
(posted 05/13/2010) Everyone have a Happy 4th of July.
(posted 05/13/2010) back in 2004 when we released the 'Annihilation' DVD we had our first ever guest part
in one of our videos. This was from Pro skater Kristian Svitak ( who we now do 1031 and Landshark with). With that here is the part.
One last thing though. Here is the link if you would like to buy this DVD. Which you can get for $5 if you buy the package deal!
D.R.I. celebrates 28th anniversary!
(posted 05/06/2010)We would like to wish D.R.I. a happy 28th anniversary! Just think 28 years of thrash/metal;
numerous ground breaking albums; helping to start a new genera and influencing millions! Not to forget a ton of great music to skate to and some great decks to skate on!
Here is what singer/co founder of D.R.I. Kurt Brecht had to say about this occasion....
If you had asked me 28 years ago, “Where do you see yourself in 28 years?”
I probably would have said, “I don’t know?”
And that is part of the beauty of life. You don’t know...you NEVER know.
Fortunately for D.R.I. we had the freedom to carve out a niche in a place out of bounds for many people, a place on the outskirts of society. We formed a Hardcore band in Houston, Texas, even though it was, at that time, a straight road to poverty.
We took a chance because we all wanted to travel and meet new people. We wanted to play shows with all the bands we listened to and read about but had never seen. We loved the music, the people and the lifestyle. With the help of our fans we accomplished and continue to accomplish our mission on a regular basis.
So check our website for upcoming shows in your area. It has been a busy year for us so far with more shows being added every day. The re-release of Crossover just came out on Beer City Records as well. Thanks for a great 28 years! See You In The Pit!"

Cyril Jackson and Fritz Mead on 1031 and Landshark
(posted 03/10/2010) 1031 and Landshark just got two new riders. Cyril Jackson
and Fritz Mead. Here is some sick footage of both guys and then a killer shot of Fritz.
Landshark wheels
(posted 03/05/2010) Might as well start letting the cat out of the bag right now....
We have been doing Landshark wheels along with Svitak from the start. Some of you may recall
how we used to have wheels for 'Beer City'. We were going to get that going again , but when
Svitak hit us up about doing 'Landshark' with him we thought that would be a better idea. So
with that we partnered up and started 'Landshark'.
Right now we have 5 different sizes in 51-55 (all in 101a hardness) and one shape called our 'Side Cut'.
It has a wider ridding surface and a special 'Side Cut' henceforth the name. Well be adding more
sizes, styles and hardness's as time goes on.
All our wheels are made with our 'Hardcore' formula. In fact they are even guarenteed against
flat spotting, (see the website for details which you can get to by clicking that 'Landshark' logo to your right)
So you will get the best ride possible and a wheel that will last long and be able to with stand
the harshest surfaces.
We also mangaed to get together a pretty sick team. It consist of Mike V, Bill Danforth,Ben Raybourn,
Kristian Svitak and Kris Markovich just got on last week. Well see who else gets added in the
future.
So there you have it.If your looking to buy the best wheels made 'Landshark' is for you.
As an extra bonus they are'Made in the USA' to! When you support Landshark you are also
supporting us. So now everyone knows. Proceed to shred!

'Turf' shots make Thrasher photo issue!
(posted 07/01/09) If you were in Milwaukee back in April you may have been lucky enough
to attend the 'Turf' photo exhibit our friend Pete DiAntonio did. Not only did Pete have
some excellent photo's on display , but there were some 'Surf N Turf' era photos courtesy
of Ron Schneider and Snake to!
If you missed
the exhibit you can still check out some photos cause Thrasher gave Pete a six page feature in
the new photo issue! Also more of Pete's photos can be found on
Thrasher's web site
and on Pete's website.
Our friend Pete DiAntoni is having a photo display
of a bunch of pictures he took at 'The Turf Skatepark'
from late 87 - the early 90's.('The Turf' was a very cool
indoor concrete park located here in Milwaukee that was built in the 70's;
closed in the early 80's then reopened at the end of 87.)
Not only will his
photos be on display , but other 'Turf' memorabila will
be on display as well. There will also be a DJ playing
music from that time period.

With the constant desire to build and create Tim wasted no time making some contacts and now is in the process of building a brand new creation (at a top secret site for now) which over time will continue and expand with Tim's imagination.
